Description Tech Specs Videos/Downloads
The APEX XD38A is a low cost thermal scope featuring a 2X optical magnification and 4X digital zoom. The APEX XD38A features multiple reticle patterns and colors as well as a one shot zero and wireless remote switch. The APEX line of thermal scopes are the most affordable in their class and feature a 384x288 thermal resolution for increased usable range. A few features that stand out among the other thermal imaging scopes in the APEX XD38A's price range are the incremental zoom, display off feature, and external power capabilities. The APEX is also much lighter than most aluminum bodied thermal scopes because it is designed out of a rugged polymer housing with an aluminum sled to mount the scope to a picatinny rail. The APEX is compatible with Pulsars line of rechargable batteries including the EPS3 and EPS5 battery pack. This is an important feature for most night hunters because changing batteries mid-hunt can be a pain. The Display Off feature allows the user to temporarily turn the display to a solid black pattern which reduces light splash from the eye-piece and also increases battery life. The incremental zoom is controled by the dial on the right side of the APEX an allows the digital zoom to be adjusting in increments less than 1X. This is helpful when you need a zoom level other than 1X, 2X, or 4X and is a feature that most other thermal weapon sights do not offer. The XD38A is capable of a well placed 200 yard shot depending on environmental conditions.

Different calibration modes
The Apex has an internal calibration shutter and offers three calibration modes including silent manual mode, automatic, and semiautomatic. The internal shutter allows a calibration, also called a non-uniformity correction or "NUC" to be performed without closing the objective lens cap.
Semiautomatic is recommended for hunting appllications because it requires a button press to calibrate the unit. This button press eliminates the possibility of a freeze-frame in an undesirable situation such as a running shot on a hog.
Silent manual mode requires the user to close the objective lens cap and automatic mode requires no user action to calibrate the unit. Automatic mode is not recommended if the user may need to take a shot on a moving targtet because there is a quick freeze in the image when the unit calibrates on automatic calibration mode.

Operating modes
The Apex offers three operating modes, each designed to deliver the best possible image in specific viewing conditions: These three modes combine brightness and contrast settings for an optimum image in any specific scenario.

DISPLAY OFF function
Apex has display shut down function which has to be used in the cases of short breaks during the process of observation for preventing disclosure of the shooter by the light from the eyepiece. When display is turned off all other systems are fully functional which allows instantaneous activation of the riflescope.

Selectable Reticles
A reticle is electronically displayed on the screen and is permanently located in the plane of target image. The Apex internal memory contains 10 reticles of various shapes and applications. The color of the reticle can be switched from black to white.

3 types of zeroing parameters memorization
The software allows the user to save in riflescope's memory three points of impact for three various distances (types of weapon or cartridges), and each option allows the use of a dedicated reticle.

Eyesafe eye relief
The Apex thermal sights feature a 67 mm eye relief one of the best parameters in its class. The greater is the eye relief the less traumatic is the use of the scope, especially on hunting weapons with considerable recoil.

Fully waterproof
With IPX7 (IEC 60529 standard) water protection class Apex riflescopes can be operated in the conditions of precipitation of any intensity and withstand a short underwater submersion.

The Apex thermal sights are equipped with a Video Out jack enabling real time video recording with the use of external recording equipment.

Rifle mount
The mounting holes in the base of the riflescope enable the mount to be installed in one of multiple positions. This choice (depending on the rifle type, anthropometric data of a shooter, etc.) helps the user to ensure the most suitable position on a riflescope.

XD38A In Use Over Cornfields April 30, 2016
Reviewer: Howard Tidwell from De Kalb, TX United States
This Spring I started out with only a pretty good night vision scope, and my friend already had an XD38A. With my night vision: Big sky looking across the corn fields, at sunset it was too much light, later on with moonless cloudy skies it was too dark to see at distance. With the XD38A you can see to shoot under all lighting conditions. I can scan huge chunks of real estate in seconds, seeing all the various varmints out there glowing.  This scope is a lot better than it has to be to varmint and hog hunt. I just want folks that are thinking about a thermal to know that this is more than enough thermal to shoot hogs and varmints.  You will not be disappointed. If the budget allows, get a battery pack.  I have the EPS3 and it is money well spent.  It is not in the way, or heavy, and about triples your run time.  This thermal scope is plenty good enough and more for hog and varmint hunting.
